Kevin Sims entered the musical world through the study of western classical percussion.  While studying at Manhattan School of Music in New York City, he began to focus on contemporary and experimental music, working closely with composers and helping to form Red Light New Music.   While studying at the Musikhochschule Freiburg in southwestern Germany, he had the opportunity to travel to music festivals in Switzerland, Korea, Russia and Ukraine, and to pursue his interest in the importance of his interest in the importance of improvisation, graphic scores, words, images, and reality.

For the last six years, Kevin has been working on making these interests more central to his work as a musician from his home in central Pennsylvania.  This work has included the founding of the Open Music Series (a disparate collection of musical performances, relationships and experiments), recording and performing with the duo Moth Bucket, begin to play with film, and the commission and performance of We Have Taken and Eaten, a percussion monodrama created with composer Scott Wollschleger and poet Abby Minor.
